This Friday evening session includes a 30 minute membership meeting and annual election of OSCH Executive Board followed by a one hour introductory presentation on understanding habit change by Dr. David Alter.

OSCH is honored to invite Dr. David Alter to Portland to present on curiosity and habit.  This one-hour, introductory presentation to Saturday’s workshop, will focus on the relationship between the tension between curiosity and habit. Both curiosity and habit are biologically-based processes. Symptoms and health-constraining conditions tend to be maintained by over-reliance on habit-based patterns.  Learning how to reactivate the hunger for novel experience that is at the core of curiosity will be this introductory workshop's main theme.

Learning Objectives:

  • Participants will be able to describe the neurobiological bases of habit formation.
  • Participants will be able to articulate the value of habit and curiosity from an evolutionary perspective.
  • Participants will be able to define in introductory terms the value of cultivating curiosity to address a variety of clinical conditions and the role of hypnosis in that cultivation process.

This Friday evening session is approved by ASCH for 1 CE unit.

Dr. Alter has significant experience as a clinical health psychologist and neuropsychological consultant. He provided training for the public and professionals over 15 years.
